About us

The University of Northern Colorado College Journalism program, plays a significant role in informing our community about important events, issues, and ideas. Bear News, a student-run news operation, is committed to providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives.

Our news team covers various topics that cater to the student body, staff, and faculty at ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp, reporting on news and enterprise stories. In a democratic society, the news is crucial in holding those in power accountable and engaging the community. At Bear New Source, we strive to provide our community with the information they need to make informed decisions.

In addition to informing and engaging our community, Bear News aims to foster a sense of community by providing a platform for student voices. Our college journalists express their opinions, share their experiences, and highlight the achievements of students, faculty, and staff.

Furthermore, as a college journalism platform, Bear News serves as a training ground for future journalists. We provide hands-on experience that helps students develop the skills they need to pursue careers.

At Bear News, we are committed to observing and reporting on everything we see, both the good and the bad. If any problems need to be addressed, we will report on them because that is our purpose.

Bear News

On our last newscast of the semester, reporter Tatiana Williams produced this story Reflecting on the Legacy of Bishop-Lehr Hall as it Faces Demolition at ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp.

This vital newsroom experience provides student journalists with learning opportunities to help them understand the entire process of gathering and distributing the news.

This past April, Bear News students had an incredible opportunity to explore the cutting-edge world of broadcast media. Their trip to Las Vegas for the National Association of Broadcasters provided an unparalleled learning experience, connecting them with hundreds of media professionals and introducing them to state-of-the-art technology.
The event showcased an array of groundbreaking tools and devices, from advanced cameras that can color-correct video in real-time to versatile screens that can roll up or even withstand a golf ball hit. This immersive experience allowed students to see the vast possibilities of modern broadcast technology.

The trip underscored the comprehensive and forward-thinking education that ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp’s Journalism and Media Studies program offers. While students benefit from great technology in ÌðÐÄÊÓƵapp’s news studio, including green screens, teleprompters, and cameras, the exposure to the latest industry innovations at the National Association of Broadcast Show has equipped them with a broader vision for their future careers.
