Biography

Anna Ursyn, Ph.D., is a professor of Computer Graphics at the University of Northern Colorado. She combines programming, software, and various media. Ursyn had over 50 single juried and invitational art shows, over 200 fine art exhibitions, such as over a dozen times at ACM SIGGRAPH Art Galleries, traveling shows at the Louvre, Paris, NTT Museum in Tokyo (5000 texts and 2000 images representing the 20th Century), Virtual Media Network, and moving image outdoor display in Dallas, TX. Carnegie Mellon University’s MoonArk|Moon Museum selected her work and NASA sent it to the Moon, with traveling shows, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and in the permanent art collection of the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum. Her work was featured in the Denver Capitol and the Denver International Airport. Research and pedagogical interests include integrated instruction in art, science, and computer graphics. She has artwork in several books and journals. Her work in ABAD is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, LA, CA. – ABAD2 – work in Permanent Collection of Museé de la Poste in Paris, France, the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., the Alternative Traditions in Contemporary Arts, the University of Iowa, The Book Art Museum Lodz, Poland, at The Waskomium in Burlington, VT, and the Islip Art Museum, NY.
Since 1987, she has served at the International IEEE Conferences on Information Visualization (iV), London, UK, and (CGIV). She serves as the Chair of the Symposium and Digital Art Gallery D-ART. Anna has published over a dozen books on knowledge visualization and coding for visual artists, as well as several book chapters. The latest series, “Knowledge through the Arts: Playful Books about Serious Things,” was published by Taylor & Francis. It consists of the following volumes:

Anna Ursyn, Ph.D. is a Professor and Computer Graphics / Digital Media Area Head at the School of Art & Design, University of Northern Colorado. She combines research and teaching with her own artistic work and writings.
Other Experience
Since 1987, Ursyn has served as a Liaison and Organizing and Program Committee member of International IEEE Conferences on Information Visualization (iV) in London, UK, and Computer Graphics, Imaging, and Visualization Conferences (CGIV). She has served as Chair of the Symposium and Digital Art Gallery D-ART iV from 1997 until now. As a member of the Education Committee at SIGGRAPH, Anna serves as a Chair of SpaceTime, International Student Competition for ACM SIGGRAPH, and International Conference of Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

Anna combines programming with software and printmaking media to unify computer generated and painted images and mixed-media sculptures. Ursyn has had over 40 single juried and invitational art shows and participated in over 200 fine art exhibitions, including at musea such as NTT Tokyo and Louvre, Paris. Her work will be sent to the moon by NASA as a part of the MoonArc Project by Carnegie Mellon University in 2017.
Anna has published five books with IGI-Global and book chapters for various publishers. Her work and her students’ work has also been published in several books.
