RIPPLE Program
Shana Gibbs presents information about the RIPPLE Program in American Sign Language.
Adapted from the 甜心视频app-Project CLIMB mentor training, the IRIS Project's Rural Interpreters Promoting Professional Learning and Engagement (RIPPLE) program was designed as a five-month, 120-hour hybrid (online and in-person) community of learning that focused on reflecting on one's own journey of learning and how to apply those experiences when facilitating and mentoring others. The program utilized current interpreting models and frameworks, paired with social justice as the lens of the discussion.
Throughout RIPPLE, participants experienced the following:
- Real-world experiences facilitating synchronous collegial discussions;
- Real-world experiences mentoring a fellow colleague;
- Applying interpreting frameworks to the task of facilitating and mentoring; and
- Analysis of dialogic learning environments.
Upon completion of this program, participants were able to:
- Demonstrate the competencies required to facilitate IRIS Project participants through an online curriculum;
- Demonstrate the competencies required to mentor IRIS Project participants;
- Recognize systematic barriers inherent in interpreting work;
- Reflect upon factors impacting decision-making while facilitating and mentoring; and
- Extrapolate a participant鈥檚 interpreting work apart from the person via an Integrated Model of Interpreting framework.
